Miss Grand International 2020 1st Runner-up Samantha Bernardo truly proves that she’s more than a beauty queen! She’s also a smart entrepreneur and fashionista who is making her mark in the world of business. Samantha joined other celebrities, like Tuesday Vargas, who have crossed over into the business world to venture into the fashion and clothing business.
Samantha launched her sleepwear apparel line, Dream Queen, in 2021 with a capital of P5,000. Her story is an inspiring one that shows how anyone can turn their dreams into reality with sheer determination and hard work. In an interview on Preview, the beauty queen shared how she juggled all her responsibilities while also building her brand.
She said, “Believe it or not, I started with 5,000 pesos as my capital until I sold over 200 sleepwear last year in a span of three months. From then on, I had this gut feeling that this was another good opportunity to earn a living and a new exciting endeavor. I was still working as a financial advisor during that time, a Binibini 2020 candidate, and a professional model.”
She admitted that while running a business has always been a part of the family, the pandemic motivated her to push further. Choosing an apparel line as a business idea was easy since fashion was something close to her heart. Learning how to turn your hobby into a lucrative business pays off well.
According to Samantha, her business idea came to mind when she realized that everyone was looking for comfortable clothes to wear during the lockdown. Even more impressive, Samantha’s business is built on her advocacy to help stop malaria. She explained that for every purchase from her brand, 10% goes to the BEAT MALARIA campaign of the Department of Health.
In a report written by Denice Sy-Muñez on alike, Samantha said she’s involved with the Provincial Malaria Congress and that she pours her heart into her advocacy. She said, “I am just someone who is lending her voice to this cause, hoping to be an effective spokesperson for the campaign.”
Samantha said one of her qualities that makes her a good entrepreneur is her willingness to learn and take on challenges. She described herself as “someone who enjoys challenging myself and discovering new potentials within me.”
