Everyone has their own reasons for wanting to start eating a vegan diet, but one thing is for certain – you are going to experience quite a few body changes. Most of them are positive ones, so that’s something to keep in mind! While not specifically a weight loss diet, many people do lose weight when they make the switch. Here are some other ways your body can change.
You Will Experience Energy Highs and Lows
Your energy levels often change when you start a vegan diet. You are probably eating less fat, possibly lower calories, your protein can be up or down, and you often have more carbs. There is nothing wrong with any of this, but do be aware your energy levels might first drop, but then start coming back up.
When your body gets more accustomed to your vegan diet, your energy levels will eventually normalize. If you are eating less processed foods and not as many refined carbohydrates and added sugars, you may also be one of the lucky people who actually have a surge in their energy. Refined carbs and sugars are often followed by a crash, so without these in your diet, you may no longer notice this afternoon crash anymore.
You May Notice Reduced Inflammation
People often think they will have more inflammation from eating plant-based foods, but the opposite is often true. If your traditional diet before going vegan relied on a lot of frozen, processed foods, then going vegan can change that exponentially. This is why focusing more on whole, plant-based foods are great for your health and will promote long-term changes in your body.
Body Odor Changes in Some People
One of the more surprising body changes is that your body odor changes for the better. What people have noticed is that the unpleasant body odor often came from eating large amounts of animal products, like red meat, dairy, and cheese. When you eliminate this from your diet and eat mostly whole, vegan foods, suddenly your body odor reduces and your smell, in general, is more pleasant.
Weight Loss is a Possibility
While vegan diets don’t promote or guarantee weight loss, it does happen naturally for many people. You tend to fill up between meals with all the veggies and whole grains you are eating, and you aren’t eating as much saturated fat and typically lower calories. Together, this can mean losing some unwanted pounds, especially if you add in a new workout routine.
