While some alcoholic beverages like beer and margaritas aren’t the healthiest options, there are still plenty of things you can drink while being a bit healthier.
Have Vodka or Rum With Flavored Water
This is a really popular alcoholic drink that nobody will realize is low-fat, low-calorie, and even low-carb! What you are going to do is make a mixed drink with your favorite clear liquor, like vodka or rum, then instead of fruit juice, add flavored water instead. You will be amazed by how delicious it is and that you don’t miss the juice at all. You really don’t need all that added sugar just to make it flavorful. Plus, sugar drinks tend to cause worse hangover symptoms, so who wants that?
Make a Fruit Spritzer
Do you know what people love? Wine! Especially all the parents at a BBQ who just want to sit back and relax a little. But to make it more interesting, you can make them spritzers instead. This also does not have to use high-sugar fruit juice to be delicious. Try either using flavored water or at least a reduced sugar variety of juice. If you have the extra time, you can also make some fruit-infused water and use that for your spritzers. Add in some white wine or champagne to finish off the drink.
Two things that come to mind when you think of summer are watermelons and mojitos. Why not combine them? For your next BBQ, you can bring the ingredients to mix up these healthier mojitos for all the adults. You are going to get your sweetness naturally from the watermelon, instead of adding in extra sugar as a lot of mojitos use. All you need is some rum and club soda, watermelon, lime juice, and a sprinkle of mint, and you’re good to go.
If you are a tequila fan, but can’t have a margarita because of the added sugar, think about this lazier version instead. You will only be using tequila, ice, and some fruit. Just mix it all up in a blender with some flavored water instead of other sugary additives, and you have a frozen cocktail that looks and tastes just like a real margarita.
