Picnic-Friendly Low Carb Foods

If you are on a low-carb diet, you can still enjoy a picnic with some delicious food options. The following ideas are all on the lower-carb end of the spectrum, plus they are nutritious and tasty.

Low-Carb Broccoli Salad

The first low-carb food to bring on a picnic is a broccoli salad, but with a few small variations to make it as low carb as possible. Instead of using a cream sauce on the broccoli and other ingredients like many traditional broccoli salads use, you are going to use mayonnaise combined with a little Stevia and some apple cider vinegar. This makes it virtually zero carbs for the sauce. Add in some fresh broccoli in small pieces, roasted sunflower seeds or your choice of nuts, and a little bit of cooked bacon cut into pieces. 

Taco Salad in a Jar

Does your family really enjoy taco salads? If so, you can easily make this a low-carb food that is easy to bring on a picnic with you. The main difference between a traditional taco salad and one that is lower in carbs is that you won’t use a tostada shell or tortilla chips. Instead, you will only eat the filling. When adding the ingredients to a jar, start with the meat and cheese on the bottom, followed by an avocado or sour cream, and add the veggies on top. Lettuce should always be at the top so that it doesn’t wilt and get weighed down by the other ingredients.

Deviled Eggs

One of the perks of being on a low-carb diet is that you can eat nearly an endless amount of eggs. These are no longer considered a ‘bad fat’ and are really encouraged on most types of low-carb diets. You can make them more interesting by cutting open hardboiled eggs and turning them into deviled eggs. All you have to do is remove the yolk, put the yolks in a bowl, and mix in some mayonnaise and mustard if you want a bite to it. Then add the mixture back to the insides of the egg whites and package them up nicely.

Buffalo Chicken Celery Sticks

Buffalo chicken is a fun snack to have, but you don’t want to make it all breaded as that is not allowed on the low-carb diet. You can still enjoy this food by mixing shredded chicken with buffalo sauce that doesn’t have any sugar in it, then adding it to celery sticks.
